DISCOVERY | SHARK WEEK | BRAND IDENTITY

Teaming up with our friends at Discovery for Shark Week is familiar waters for us. Back in 2018 we created the promo graphics for the 30th anniversary of the event.

We jumped in again in 2023 to create the on-air, promo, and branded entertainment graphics.

Our latest dive included a comprehensive brand identity in addition to an "evergreen" on-air system that can be used for years to come.

Below is a sampling of the Shark Week brand identity we created to ensure that teams and partners creating marketing and communication materials for Shark Week can do so with consistency, simplicity, and clarity.

• LOGO SYSTEM

We refined the sizes and spacings in the Shark Week logo to adhere to visually-pleasing guidelines based on defined units.

• FINAL LOGOS

The Shark Week brand features two main logo variations: the primary stacked version, used for most instances, and the secondary horizontal version, reserved for specific situations where the primary logo is not suitable. The abbreviated “SW” lockup is tailored exclusively for use in app icons/tiles and user interface elements, as well as instances where real estate is limited.

• LOGO SAFE SPACE

Safe space around the logos was defined to ensure the logos are distinct and easily identifiable at all times.

• LOGO MINIMUM SIZES

The minimize use size for the logos was defined to ensure legibility at small scale.

• COLOR PALETTE

We created the color palette for the Shark Week brand as a cornerstone for enhancing brand recognition. The blue and yellow shades of the primary colors were chosen because of their unique contrast over both light and dark backgrounds, which is critical for brand colors due to their wide range of use.

• 3D LOGOTYPE

We created 3D treatments of the logos for scenarios where a more impactful logo is needed, such as over photography or backgrounds that have tonal variations.
The 3D logotype was used as the primary logo in the promo graphics. Click here to view the 2024 promo graphics.

• SHIELD LOGOTYPE

Crafted for specific scenarios where the background, often imagery with significant tonal variation, affects the readability of the primary or secondary logotypes.

• LOGO ICONS

Below are samples of the logo as icons for UI implementation.

Huge thanks to the creative marketing team at Discovery for this Shark-tastic collaboration!
