HISTORY | SEARCH FOR THE LOST GIANTS
This show made us want to get our hands dirty. Our inspiration for the promo graphics package and show logo came straight from the show. The series follows two men on their endless but enthusiastic search for a long forgotten race of giants. The protagonists scour government documents, track down other believers, and attempt to excavate evidence from sites around the world. Our goal was to illustrate these facets of their exploration in a gritty, handmade style reflective of the show’s mood.
To capture the authentic grittiness we wanted, our team designed dozens of illustrations and text layouts. We wrote each newspaper headline and clipping to ensure all text was relevant to the show. We printed each of the illustrations and text layouts on individual sheets of acetate which gave us the ability to move and change every composition as well as add authentic handheld movement. We shot the layers of acetate over a light box in our studio. From there we composited the layers together to create the final animation.
