DISCOVERY | MANHUNT UNABOMBER | TEASE

In anticipation of Discovery’s limited series Manhunt: Unabomber, the network approached us to create a :15 teaser featuring one of the most recognized police sketches in US history: the hooded man with sunglasses. We animated hundreds of lines of authentic text pulled from the Unabomber’s manifesto to create the teaser. We created an original glitchy, static-filled music track with a distorted newscast VO to further add to the overall feeling of unease.

The teaser won bronze for on-air typography at the PromaxBDA Design Awards.

DISCOVERY | MANHUNT UNABOMBER | TRAILER

Fresh off our PROMAX/BDA win for the Manhunt teaser (for On-air Typography), we were excited to team up with Discovery again for the Manhunt Unabomber campaign including the trailer and promo graphics that rolled out in the months prior to the show's debut.

The collective memory of Ted Kaczynski and the Unabomber case is full of iconic imagery. The police sketch, his published Manifesto, and his notebooks filled with hundreds of pages of text written in complicated code that was decrypted with his self-created cipher.

For the trailer graphics we focused on the cipher - a grid of digits corresponding to written words.

The series maintained consistent viewership numbers through its run and is currently rated 92% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. It even attracted the attention of Ted Kaczynski himself, who wrote from prison that he was not a fan.
